Atika Murals

This mural is part of a community effort to revitalize Beer Sheva's old city, in collaboration with the Beer Sheva Municipality and The Federation CJA (Montreal).

About: The project included open-community involvement, so I designed an initial block-pattern scene to facilitate everyone's participation. Volunteers from The Federation CJA (Montreal) began the initial painting. Afterwards, many local people approached me, asked for information about the project, expressed their opinions, and also helped paint the wall. The overwhelming response was positive. During the following days, several people repeatedly visited to view the wall's progress.

Location: 106 Mordei Ha-Geta’ot St., Beer Sheva.

Theme: Ancient Beer Sheva was established around 4000 BC. Over the centuries, the city had been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times. However in more recent history, Beer Sheva remained deserted up until the time of the Ottoman Empire. The local Bedouin economy and the traditional market (shuk) influenced the Ottoman's decision for the location of modern day Beer Sheva. The original city design for the municipal buildings, garden, mosque, and houses followed a grid pattern, which can be seen in the old city today.
